Challenge

Thanks to the seamless integration of BlueID technology, Akii Created innovative solutions for construction site security that save time and effort by using your app to complete all access control administrative tasks from a mobile device such as a smartphone or tablet.

In order to minimize direct interaction with users, the administration system should be remotely controllable — an essential requirement, particularly in times of COVID-19.

In addition, access rights had to be limited in time, as the various trades work one after the other during the construction phase. Each company only needs access to individual areas of the building for a certain period of time. After completing the work, the responsible company must securely close the area before the next company gains access. This ensures protection against theft and damage.

In addition, particularly robust locks were required. On construction sites, the fittings must withstand accidental impacts from heavy equipment, extreme weather conditions and rough handling. At the same time, the locks should be easy to install and maintain.

Solution

The cloud-based BlueID backend was seamlessly integrated into the AKII app via open APIs and SDKs. As a result, the administrator can easily manage users, grant them temporary access rights and immediately withdraw the authorizations if a transponder or access medium is lost. The time-consuming transfer and administration of physical keys is no longer necessary, as access rights can be issued and withdrawn digitally and anywhere.

The selection of locks was easy thanks to Blueid's integrated hardware portfolio. The electronic cylinders from Uhlmann & Zacher not only offer the necessary mechanical robustness and safety, but also enable containers and storage boxes for tools and building materials to be securely closed. The battery-powered cylinders are easy to install in new and existing projects as they require no wiring or an Internet connection. Maintenance and firmware updates are carried out directly via the app, making additional devices and key cards superfluous.
