South European university uses BlueIDs access control via smartphone for 9,000 students
BlueID GmbH has worked with an independent, private university in one of the European Capitals, which offers its almost 9000 students an innovative educational approach in the fields of economics/finance, business/management, law and political science.
The university decided to give its students and other stakeholders access to their rooms, corridors, study rooms, lecture rooms and dormitories (in addition to a standard card-based access solution) via smartphones. A first pilot program started at the beginning of 2017 with a limited number of rooms in a single university building. Based on the encouraging initial test results, the university quickly decided to launch the solution on a larger scale and expand the service to many rooms in several buildings.
Since it is a centralized, cloud-based service, further extensions and scaling of the solution are very easy. Additional locks can be added to an already running solution and mobile offline access is possible without lengthy implementation and adjustment times. RFID cards or dongles can only provide a backup solution in the event that smartphones are not available.
BlueID GmbH implemented the project together with two of its universal platform partners, who contributed the Bluetooth-enabled HW for various types of locks (completely secured by BlueID firmware) and provided the smartphone-based customer management application. The Ecosystem for Mobile Access Solutions can be quite complex, and various levels of expertise are required to deliver a project on time and within budget. BlueID has established close partnerships in the area of building management and combined this expertise with its universal access platform to offer tailored solutions for various business needs.
